Malcolm
and Associates is an accountancy practice located in Armidale, Northern
NSW. The firm prides itself on providing sound and objective business
and taxation advice based on comprehensive knowledge and many years of
experience.
The firm concentrates on providing clients with
personalised, professional and individually tailored services. The
Principals travel throughout Australia to meet with clients and to
assist them to further develop their businesses.
Our
History
Malcolm
& Associates was established in 1993 by Senior Partner John Malcolm
following repeated requests for taxation and business
advice.
At the
time John had moved to Armidale to complete higher degree studies at the
University of New England. Lecturing in the Marketing and Management
Department after completing his Master of Business Administration
majoring in Marketing and Human Resource Streams, John established Malcolm &
Associates to service the needs of business associates, friends and
colleagues.
Filling
a niche in the market, the business which originally operated as a home
business has grown to employ 14 staff today. The Principals have been
adamant that growth should not come at the cost of client service and
the firm has therefore been able to continue to provide the high quality
of service that its client warrant whilst undergoing expansion.
In
July 2001, James Abbo became a partner of the firm. James had held the
position of Senior Accountant with the organisation for a number of
years prior to being offered a partnership. James brings to the firm
excellent accounting, audit and taxation skills plus an informed,
balanced approach to business systems implementation.
Our
Principals
John Malcolm
John
commenced his accounting career in 1976 with a major international
accounting firm in Sydney. Quickly moving up the ranks to the position
of Manager of Corporate Advisory Services before moving to a more
challenging role in commerce as Group Financial Controller. John
then moved
into a private accountancy practice and finally to his own practice in
1993.
John
moved with his family to Armidale, trading the excitement of the big
cities for a better quality of life and to complete his Masters Degree.
He commenced his own Accountancy practice, Malcolm & Associates in 1993,
as a result of continual requests and encouragement from friends,
business associates and colleagues.
Throughout his career John has been, continually updating his knowledge
base and skills through further education. Today John is an active
member of the Armidale Community participating in a number of local and
regional committees as well as contributing to the education community
by lecturing at both the University of New England and Armidale TAFE.

James Abbo
After
graduating from the University of New England in 1983, James developed
his skills and expanded his knowledge by working
in Chartered Accounting firms in Regional NSW and Sydney.
Prior to commencing with Malcolm &
Associates James gained experience in assisting businesses with their accounting and
taxation requirements. In the role of Audit Manager with a
Sydney practice James focused on large private companies. In
regional roles James developed experience in delivering accounting
services to large public utilities (Hospitals and Local Government
Councils), primary producers and individuals.
After
success in Sydney, in 1999 James wished to return to the country and
joined Malcolm & Associates as a Senior Accountant and in 2001 became a
Partner of the Firm.
James
is a keen golfer and hockey player and enjoys spending time with his wife and 2
young daughters.
